Special Correspondent: Mamunur Rashid Nomani is a brave journalist who is protesting against the voice of journalists. He came forward to protest against injustice. The brave and protesting journalist Mamunur Rashid Nomani is now appearing in court regularly as an accused under sections 26 (2) and 33 (2) of the much-criticized and controversial Digital Security Act. Police have not yet issued a chargesheet in the case. On September 12, 2020, while collecting news, the cadres of the ruling party attacked journalist Mamunur Rashid Nomani on the instructions of Barisal Awami League General Secretary and Barisal City Corporation Mayor Sadiq Abdullah. Journalist Nomani’s three fingers were broken in the attack.

The cadres did not stop attacking the journalist Nomani. The case is now pending.

Journalist Mamunur Rashid Nomani was released on bail on September 29, 2020 after 14 days in jail.

Meanwhile, a group is threatening Nomani to leave the city and order him to stop writing. Nomani and her family are currently concerned about Nomani’s safety.

Mamunur Rashid Nomani has been in the journalism profession for almost two decades. Journalists from different parts of Bangladesh including Dhaka protested against the fake and baseless case against the protesting journalist.

Journalist Nomani is co-chair of the Central Committee of the Joint Press Council. Co-President of Bangladesh Online Journalists Association and General Secretary of Bonpar Central Committee.

Besides, journalist Nomani is the president of Barisal Online Journalists Union, Barisal Online Press Club. Joint General Secretary of Barisal Metropolitan Press Club.

Journalist Mamunur Rashid Nomani has extensive participation in social and humanitarian activities. He is the founder of the FFL BD Foundation, a voluntary organization, the FFL Youth Foundation. Entrepreneurs of various social and humanitarian organizations including Friends for Life, Friends for Life Cooperative Society, Conscious Citizens Movement.

At present, this protesting and courageous journalist Mamunur Rashid Nomani is suffering from insecurity.

Journalists and human rights organizations in Bangladesh and around the world, including Asian Human Rights, have strongly condemned the attack on Nomani by the ruling party cadres. The Committee to Protect Journalists is constantly on the lookout for information.

In this regard, journalist Mamunur Rashid Nomani said, “I am currently suffering from insecurity.” I am worried about my life at any time they may attack or cause any incident. He demanded justice and withdrawal of false charges in the case of attack on him.
